"Mikel is a wonderful teacher who has the patience, great personality, and skills that a child needs in order to learn. He creates fun lessons in a safe environment. As a musician myself, I was looking for a unique person to teach my son piano. I was extremely relieved to find that Mikel is not only a skilled musician, but also personable. My son looks forward to piano lessons every week!"

MIKEL BELL'S BIO
Education, Experience & Other Pursuits
EDUCATION
Mikel began learning music at the age of four, with formal piano lessons starting at age eight. While attending public schools, he became accomplished on clarinet, trumpet, trombone, saxophone, and percussion, eventually adding guitar and drums. He continued his education at Shoreline Community College in Seattle, where he studied piano with Nancy Matesky, and trombone with Barry Ehrlich. Mikel returned to school in 2004, and now holds a Bachelor of Music in Composition from Boise State University. There he studied composition with Prof. J. Wallis Bratt, played percussion in the BSU Symphonic Winds under the direction of Prof. Marcellus Brown, played piano and sang in the Jazz Choir, and sang in BSU’s premiere classical chorus, Meistersingers.
EXPERIENCE
At the age of seventeen, Mikel began getting requests from classmates to teach them piano. He soon had more than twenty students. Alongside his other pursuits, Mikel has always kept a few serious students, and has recently returned his focus to mainly teaching. He has taught both out of his home, and in several studios, and has more than thirty-five years experience teaching piano, drums, trombone, saxophone, and guitar. He served as Composer-in-Residence for three years in the Marsing School District in Idaho, composing music for the high school and middle school bands and choirs. He enjoyed his daily time in the classroom, conducting those groups and interacting with the students.
